Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) is a therapeutic approach that combines the administration of ketamine with traditional talk therapy. Ketamine is used in low doses to facilitate deep psychological exploration, often helping people access emotions and memories that may be difficult to reach in regular therapy.
In our KAP session, clients take a ketamine lozenge under the supervision of a therapist, and once the effects begin, they are guided through the experience, using the altered state of consciousness to explore issues such as trauma, depression, anxiety, and other mental health challenges. This process can lead to breakthroughs, insights, and emotional healing, as the ketamine may temporarily reduce defenses, allowing for a more open and fluid exploration of the self.
Who can benefit:
Treatment-resistant depression: For individuals who have not responded to traditional antidepressants, ketamine can provide rapid relief from depressive symptoms.
Anxiety disorders: Ketamine may help break cycles of chronic anxiety and promote emotional regulation.
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD): Ketamine's dissociative effects can allow patients to process traumatic memories in a less triggering way, aiding in emotional healing.
Existential or end-of-life distress: Those facing terminal illness may find peace and emotional resolution through ketamine therapy.
Because ketamine alters perception and mood, the therapeutic process can be enriched, helping clients gain new perspectives, foster emotional growth, and integrate difficult experiences. It's most effective when done in a controlled, therapeutic setting, ensuring that the experience is safe and meaningful.
